Sorini covers
broad range of activities under its "Corporate Social
Responsibility" program. Such activities include community empowerment
and betterment, education, health, and environmental projects. Sorini engaged
in over eight community-related CSR activities covering projects as diverse
as waste management, youth empowerment and tree planting both inside and
outside of the plant.
Community Empowerment
Education
Road repair was conducted in Kedamean village to accelerate
internal transportation. Sorini also donated seeds to local farms in
Karangrejo, in response to insect infestations.
An innovation from youth organizations reduces waste intensity in the
local public waste disposal site, by redirecting waste filter aid from
the plant and selling it as an additive for animal feed to third parties.
In a similar initiative, youth groups buy used sacks from the plant and
resell to third parties: reducing waste volume and creating micro
business opportunities.
To support local education opportunities, Sorini runs a
project in Ngerong and Karangrejo providing yearly scholarships for high
achieving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The
project supported 18 students from Elementary school and 9 from Junior
High.
Health
Environment
The third area of Sorini’s CSR activities focuses on health.
With the support of Unilever and the Dentistry Faculty of Airlangga
University, a dental hygiene campaign was propagated to 60 kindergarten
students in Ngerong. During the campaign, students were introduced to
Unilever dental products developed from ingredients from Sorini.
Also in cooperation with Unilever and Gempol health centre, free general
health monitoring facilities were set up in Ngerong, Kedamean and
Kepulungan to improve community awareness about the importance of health
and healthy living. 322 people have visited the facility.
Sorini always strive to be a good corporate citizen. From
its inception, the company has contributed in making its environment
clean and green. All its production facilities are equipped with waste
water treatment installations. We provide treated water pro-bono to
farming community around its production site. Local farmers are able to
benefit from our out-reach programs.
Neighbourhood re-greening projects, using seeds taken from mature plants
around the Sorini site, were conducted at unused land in Ngerong,
Kecicang, and Kedamean
